Romano confirms Liverpool have a new ‘priority’ transfer target following Bellingham u-turn

Image
Liverpool have now made Mason Mount their ‘priority’ transfer target this summer after ending their pursuit of Jude Bellingham, that’s according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. The Chelsea midfielder is approaching the final year of his current Stamford Bridge deal and there is yet to be a breakthrough regarding discussions over a new deal. Jurgen Klopp is believed to be a huge fan of the England international and the Reds are reportedly leading the race for the 24-year-old’s signature despite Arsenal recently joining the pursuit of the Portsmouth-born star. “So, Mount remains the priority target, we can confirm what we said in February, Liverpool want Mason Mount,” Romano told the Here We Go Podcast (as quoted by The Boot Room). “Now it’s on Mount to decide his future with Chelsea, his contract expires in 2024 and if there is no agreement in June or July, Chelsea will be prepared to put Mount on the market and Liverpool will be there.” With Todd Boehly spending more than £600m...

Rumour Mongering: Liverpool in Pole Position to Sign Mason Mount

Image
Mason Mount appeared one of Chelsea’s key players under Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel, but the arrival of Graham Potter has seen both his play and opportunities suffer and as of this summer he will have just one year left on his contract. The timing couldn’t have been worse from a Chelsea point of view if the hope was to keep the club-trained attacking midfielder at the club long-term, and for the past six months or so there has seemed to be only one alternative for the player: Liverpool. That continues this week with The Mirror’s John Cross setting out that the Reds are in pole position to sign Mount in the summer as part of a major midfield rebuild for Jürgen Klopp, though for many, slight question marks over fit will remain. As a more advanced player, Mount seems to fit the template of youngsters Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho—he is neither a box-to-box nor a defensive midfielder. But he does also fit the template of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and, arguably, Naby Keïta. And for at...

Jurgen Klopp confident in Darwin Nunez’s return for Liverpool’s match with Wolves

Image
Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez and centre-back Ibrahima Konate are in contention to return for the home game against Wolves. Nunez missed Saturday’s goalless draw at Crystal Palace with a shoulder problem but trained fully yesterday and, providing there is no reaction, looks set to go straight back into the side. Konate has been out for a month with a hamstring problem but is also back with the squad. “Joe Gomez is out. Ibou (Konate) trained yesterday completely normal and Darwin as well. Then we will see,” said manager Jurgen Klopp. “Darwin we have to see. It looked absolutely OK yesterday, but we have to see how he reacts. Thiago (Alcantara) is in rehab. Luis (Diaz) I watched half-an-hour of rehab session on the pitch, doing shooting, moving. (He looked) really good but not in team training yet.”

Cody Gakpo admits he was expecting to sign for Man United before making Liverpool switch

Image
Cody Gakpo has admitted that he thought he was going to sign for Man United before eventually agreeing a switch to rivals Liverpool. The Netherlands international, who enjoyed an impressive winter World Cup campaign in Qatar, has been destined to secure a big move for quite some time. Heavily linked with Man United, due to Erik Ten Hag’s Dutch connection, Gakpo appeared nailed on to join the Red Devils, especially after Cristiano Ronaldo mutually agreed to terminate his contract, leaving the 20-time league winners desperately short of goalscoring options. However, after stalling on a potential deal, United saw rivals Liverpool steal a march in the race to bring Gakpo to the Premier League, and apparently uninterested in going head-to-head with their enemies, Jurgen Klopp was able to land his man for around £40m (Sky Sports) with relative ease. However, speaking in a recent interview, the former PSV attacker admitted he spent much of the year expecting to play at Old Trafford. “It was d...

Liverpool enter the battle to sign 23-year-old African attacker

Samuel Chukwueze is attracting much interest from PL sides as Liverpool joins the chase for the Villarreal winger. Nigeria international could become the Yellow Submarine’s record sale if PL sides cough up their €50m asking price. Samuel has put in great performances for the La Liga club this term, attracting much interest from the English sides. Former Villarreal boss Unai Emery already wants to bring Chukwueze to Aston Villa, while Arsenal are also keen. Villarreal’s €50m asking price could pose a problem for those clubs looking to negotiate with the Spanish side. La Liga giants are not looking to sell him for a reduced sum, meaning only a handful of teams could invest huge sums in acquiring the Nigerian. Arsenal stay in the market for a young winger and may look at Chukwueze as an option. Their priority target is still Mykhaylo Mudryk, as they have placed a first bid for the Ukrainian winger. Now, the Reds have reportedly entered the chase for the Nigerian winger. Having only signed...

Liverpool made £200k signing in 2020, it's now becoming clear it was absolutely genius

In some ways, Stefan Bajcetic is a historic transfer for Liverpool. He was the last pre-Brexit deal for the Reds and one that would have been impossible afterwards. Bajcetic arrived as a 16-year-old from Celta Vigo, with Liverpool paying £224k, per the Athletic. Manchester United also wanted the teenager and there was a race on. Once the UK left the EU, it would be impossible to sign Under 18 players as they couldn’t get a work permit. The deal was finalised on the 31st of December 2020 – literally the day before Brexit. And with that, Liverpool secured an incredible bargain that could got down in history for many more reasons. Liverpool got a highly-rated centre-back for £200k, then. Fast-forward two years and Bajcetic is no longer that. He’s now an incredibly gifted holding midfielder, with the Reds having worked hard to develop him in that role recently. Bajcetic impressed enough at youth level that he earned a place in the pre-season squad – and that’s an opportunity he took remark...

Liverpool reached an agreement to sign Cody Gakpo for a fee between £35m and £45m from PSV; Man Utd had shown interest in Gakpo in the summer before pursuing a deal for Antony from Ajax; Southampton had an offer rejected for the 23-year-old in the summer. On Boxing Day, the Dutch club announced Liverpool had reached an agreement to sign Gakpo for a fee between £35m and £45m. A PSV statement on Monday said: "PSV and LFC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo. "The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently, where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer." Liverpool's rivals Manchester United were interested in Gakpo in the summer, when they instead signed Antony from Ajax, but reports suggested they were considering a move for the Netherlands international in the upcoming January transfer window. United boss Erik ten Hag wants to sign a forward in January following Cristiano Ronaldo...
